Travel from Nepal
Preparing for Immigration Interviews
An immigration interview is not a performance.
Your goal is to explain your trip truthfully, briefly and consistently with your documents.
In this guide
Questions you may be asked
Why are you travelling?
Where will you stay?
How long are you staying?
Who is paying for the trip?
What do you do in Nepal?
Do you know anyone there?
When will you return?
Can you show your hotel or onward ticket?
Not every traveller will be asked every question.
Best preparation
Know your own itinerary.
Keep documents organised.
Make sure names, dates and destinations match.
Good answer style
Be direct.
If your trip is a seven-day holiday, say that clearly.
Do not add unnecessary stories or memorised language.
Documents to keep accessible
passport
visa
flight itinerary
hotel booking
return ticket
travel insurance
bank/payment evidence
invitation where relevant
employment/business/student evidence where relevant
Never use fake documents
False bookings, altered bank statements or invented employment information can cause refusal, questioning and future immigration problems.
If you do not understand a question
Ask politely for it to be repeated.
Do not guess.
Nepal departure versus destination immigration
You may encounter checks:
- during airline check-in;
- at Nepal departure immigration;
- during transit; and
- at arrival immigration.
Each authority has a different role.
Common mistakes
Contradicting your own documents.
Not knowing hotel name.
Giving different trip lengths.
Claiming tourism while carrying contradictory evidence.
Getting angry during routine questioning.
